Anhui Tiankang Group served as the instrumentation package supplier for the CIMA waste heat recovery power plant EPC project in Malaysia, delivering temperature instruments, pressure gauges, and instrumentation accessories in May 2023. Anhui Tiankang acted as a sub-supplier to the EPC contractor, providing instrumentation package supply and documentation support. The supplied instrumentation supports reliable temperature and pressure measurement throughout the waste heat recovery boilers and steam system, providing critical data for safe and efficient power generation.
The project, located in Bahau, Negeri Sembilan, is a landmark cement WHR project developed by Chinese EPC contractor Sinoma Energy Conservation Ltd. for CIMA Group's subsidiary NSCI.
The WHR system is designed for two existing cement production lines (4,000 tpd and 5,000 tpd) with 4 WHR boiler units and 1 steam turbine generator set. The turbine generates 16.5MW and the generator 18MW, significantly reducing the plant's grid power consumption and CO₂ emissions.
The project successfully achieved grid connection in August 2024, passed performance testing on February 28, 2025, and received the PAC Certificate on June 19, 2025.
Anhui Tiankang Group's instrumentation supply for this project included:
Temperature Instruments
Thermocouples for high-temperature flue gas measurement in WHR boilers
RTDs for steam and water system monitoring
Thermowells for sensor protection in harsh operating conditions
Pressure Instruments
Stainless steel pressure gauges for steam system pressure monitoring
Accessories & Documentation
Tube fittings and mounting hardware
Calibration certificates
Material test certificates (MTCs)
Datasheets and installation guides
The following provides background on the project's process technology to help understand the instrumentation application environment.
The project employs Sinoma's proprietary fourth-generation cement waste heat recovery technology. This system achieves deep integration between the WHR system and the clinker production line, delivering 34 kWh per ton of clinker (with 6-stage preheater) — a 15-20% improvement in heat recovery efficiency compared to conventional technologies.
The AQC (Air Quenching Cooler) system utilizes closed-loop air circulation, eliminating the need for air coolers and chimneys. This design improves waste heat utilization while maintaining clinker strength and cooling efficiency.
The preheater (SP) boiler features a low-resistance, high-efficiency design that enhances heat exchange while reducing boiler draft loss, thereby lowering the burning system's power consumption.
The project delivers significant benefits:
Annual power savings: 112.75 million kWh
Annual coal savings: 39,600 tons
Annual CO₂ reduction: 92,400 tons
The project substantially reduces the clinker production line's overall power consumption, improving CIMA's cost competitiveness while reducing emissions and supporting the transition to low-carbon cement production.
Our selection and supply were based on Sinoma's specifications, process conditions, and site requirements.
Temperature Measurement
Thermocouples and RTDs were selected based on application requirements, including measurement range, response time, and environmental conditions. Thermowells were supplied with appropriate materials and designs to withstand elevated flue gas temperatures, high dust loading, and vibration in the WHR boiler environment. Thermowell design ensures long-term protection, maintenance accessibility, and sensor interchangeability under continuous operation.
Pressure Measurement
Stainless steel pressure gauges were supplied with appropriate pressure ratings and connection types for steam system pressure monitoring. Wetted parts were selected for compatibility with steam service conditions.
Documentation & Quality Control
All instruments were delivered with complete calibration certificates, material test certificates (MTCs), and technical datasheets, ensuring full traceability and compliance with project requirements.
Execution followed the EPC contractor's project schedule and quality requirements. Anhui Tiankang Group established dedicated coordination to ensure alignment between supply and site installation.
On-Time Delivery: All instrumentation packages were delivered in May 2023, meeting the site installation schedule.
Quality Assurance: Instruments supplied with complete calibration certificates, MTCs, and technical documentation.
Documentation Package: Datasheets, calibration reports, and quality certificates accompanied all shipments.
Technical Support: Provided responsive consultation throughout the supply process.
The Malaysia CIMA WHR project achieved grid connection in August 2024, passed performance testing on February 28, 2025, and received the PAC Certificate from NSCI on June 19, 2025.
